Important: "I am a Channel Swimmer" - Zoe Sadler

Posted on 24 Jul 2012 at 23:18 by Mike Lambert (0 user comment)

"Just to let you know that I set off from Samphire Hoe, England at 2am on Monday 23rd July 2012 and swam to Petit Blanc Nez, France arriving 16 hours 0 minutes later. Water temp was 15C throughout until I got to French inshore waters when it warmed up to 17C for the last 2 hours of the swim.

Absolutely delighted but too sore and too ill to celebrate properly at this stage. Not currently in a fit state to travel home so will stay in Dover for a couple of days. This channel swimming lark really takes it out of you. Kate Robarts, Mark Sadler and Joanne Postins were on board as support crew and worked their socks off to keep me fed every half hour."

What an achievement !!

What is Masters Swimming?
Masters Swimming is a programme designed to encourage fitness through swimming for adults over the age of 18. Masters Swimming provides opportunities for people to increase physical fitness, improve swimming ability, and participate in social activities. Our coached programme features regular, structured sessions emphasising stroke improvement, cardiovascular activities, and progressive fitness training.

Why Join a Club?
People join a Masters Swim Club for many reasons including fitness, social interaction, competition, and travel. The health benefits are many - stress reduction, muscle tone, weight control, increased strength and endurance are but a few. One of the greatest advantages of Masters Swimming is to be able to practise with an organised group that provides active support for a healthy lifestyle through fitness, fun, friendship, and participation.

Do I have to compete?
The level of participation is entirely up to you, be it lane swimming, international competition or any level in between. The Basingstoke Bluefins Masters squad welcomes all levels of swimmers – it doesn’t matter how fast you are, only how much fun you have in the water! It is not necessary to have previous experience in competitive swimming - you just have to be able to swim a few lengths of the pool. We try to provide a balanced programme which appeals to both recreational/fitness swimmers as well as to those who wish to compete at Masters Swimming meets. Our coach, Jason Keeler, plans training sessions and provides guidance in order to foster improvement for both groups.

Our Coach
There’s no question that the motivation and instruction of a coach provides a powerful advantage to those wishing to improve their swimming ability.
