FINA Points

The British Age Group Category (BAGCAT) scheme, trialled at the Hampshire County Championships, has been adopted by the ASA as the model for age group swimming. Instead of the focus being on individual events, trophies are be awarded to the best swimmer over a range of events. Originally this was based on British Age Group points, which included Age Correction Factors.

From 1st January 2010, the ASA has discontinued the BAG Point system in favour of the international FINA points system, which does not make any allowance for age, but does allow swims across different age groups to be compared.

Until the end of 2009, Basingstoke Bluefins used BAG Points to calculate the overall best swimmer in each age group at club championships and BAG Points appeared on gala results.

From 1st January 2010, the club has adopted FINA Points and FINA Points appear on gala results.
