Code of Conduct

Objective and Scope

The purpose of this document is to establish a set of guidelines and procedures for Basingstoke Bluefins Swimming Club, which all members are expected and required to conform to. When representing the club at galas and competitions the club's reputation depends on the way swimmers behave. This Code of Conduct applies at all times, both when participating in such events and during training

Code of Conduct

Swimmers
Attendance
1.1   Swimmers should be punctual for all training sessions. Equipment (hats, goggles, drinks, boards and flippers) should be sorted out before the warm up starts.
1.2   Swimmers should try to attend all training sessions for their squad unless unforeseen circumstances occur.

Behaviour and Personal Conduct:
 
2.1   Behaviour and Personal Conduct must at all times be of a high standard and reflect favourably on the sport, and the Club
2.2   Language in public or relevant group situations must always be appropriate and socially acceptable.
2.3   Swimmers must move carefully and safely around the poolside - no running or pushing swimmers into the water.
2.4   Swimmers should only enter the water when instructed to do so by their lane coach and then, in an orderly manner.
2.5   In lanes, care and consideration should be shown to others at all times so as to ensure safe and effective training sessions. Respect the equipment provided.
2.6   Swimmers should ask permission to leave the water.
2.7   Swimmers should be prepared to do their best in all training sessions. They will be asked to leave the sessions if their behaviour is not considered appropriate.
2.8   Swimmers should behave in the showers and changing areas. Treat each other with respect. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another swimmer.
2.9   Consumption of Alcohol is totally forbidden for swimmers under age as defined by UK law. Staff are also forbidden from consuming alcohol whilst working.
2.10   Smoking is totally forbidden for swimmers and staff who are working.
2.11   The use of any drugs or substances other than for medical reasons is prohibited. Swimmers should check with the chief coach that any drugs used for medical purposes are not on the ASA “Banned List”
2.12   It is important that information on all medication being currently taken or allergies to any medication must be disclosed to the club on the medical/membership form. Any changes to medication must be notified to the club administrator.
 

Parents:

  • Swimming should be fun. Do not force an unwilling child to participate.
  • Encourage your child to abide by the rules
  • Never ridicule a child for making a mistake or losing a competition. An honest effort is just as valuable.
  • Remember that children learn by example so applaud a good swim - by your team and the opposition.
  • Recognise the value and importance of the coaches who give their time and energy for your child. Try to support them and reinforce positive messages from them.
  • If you have a grievance try to arrange a face-to-face discussion with the coach. Do not enter into a war of words in front of your child. The coaches and committee are prepared to listen.
  • Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct could lead to disciplinary action being taken. The Chief coach will issue a verbal warning in the first instance. If further incidents occur he/she shall report the incident to the committee of the club who shall take such further action as is deemed necessary.
  • In addition it is expected that all members of Basingstoke Bluefins Swimming Club, when attending any event or training session shall:
  • Comply with the codes, rules and laws within the guidelines set out by the ASA.
  • Comply with the codes, rules and laws of the facility the club is using.
  • Behave without discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language, religion, birth or social status as set out in the equal opportunities policy.
  • Respect the basic human rights, worth and dignity of each member.
  • Do not encourage swimmers, volunteers, officials or parents to violate the rules of the club or the sport.
  • Observe the authority and the decisions of all officials.
  • Encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool.
  • Treat other competitors and teams with respect, in victory and defeat.
